"Self-Centered Technology - It's all about you"

Posted June 30, 2007 1:14:30 PM

Eagle-Eyes spotted it, as usual, but it was my wife (not Hammerhead) that thinks the above headline in the Press Democrat "hits the nail on the head." She absolutely refused to allow me to "steal" $599 from her "cookie jar" to buy one of the Apple iPhones that went on sale as of , Friday night. Since then, the media blitz has been phenomenal.

Our Web of Life & Our Information Highway - any connections?

Posted June 30, 2007 12:05:00 AM

Thursday's headline, "Bald eagle coming off endangered list today," had "Eagle-Eyes" flapping his wings for joy. At long last, one of the nation's major symbols has made an astounding recovery from possible extinction as a species. Ever since strict protection was sanctioned by the Endangered Species Act of 1973, a significant change in the American environmental ethic has occurred. Actually, "Eagle-Eyes" knows that this comeback was partially due to a better understanding of our ecological "web of life." However, he wants to hit "Hammerhead" with a news story that should have been on all the front pages of our nation's newspapers.

Our Information & Communication World - Are we tuned in?

Posted June 29, 2007 12:05:00 AM

"Eagle-Eyes" has been asking me if I've read "this or that" blog, or checked on those "e-newsletters" dealing with the future of newspapers in our society. Then "Hammerhead" wants to know when I'll post a blog about something that will really "hit the nail on the head" for our Petaluma360 readers.

Hammerhead is becoming a real "Ham-bone"

Posted June 28, 2007 12:06:00 AM

Having spent seven-hours at the Sonoma-Marin Fair, Saturday, staffing the Ham Radio demonstration table with other amateur radio operators, I think I'm on my way to becoming a real Ham-bone. My regular readers know that I only passed my Technician's exam, last November and the General Class in February. In addition, I also took the training necessary to become an ACS (Auxiliary Communications Service) volunteer for Sonoma County Emergency Services. Why? (Don't you have enough to do?)

OK, Hammerhead, what do you think, now?

Posted June 27, 2007 2:21:45 AM

The comment posted by Emperor Norton II to yesterday's blog set the stage for today's blog: "Bill, my man, by the time we old farts get old enough to be wise and recognize what's important in life (our family, friends, unhurried TIME with same) we're too old for any of the hurried, multitasking, go-go-go, time-is-money, got-ten-things-to-do-and-time-for-five folks to want to listen to our wisdom. Such is life."

"Quotes" that make me think!

Posted June 26, 2007 7:59:17 AM

A recent online article about today's world of "multitasking" through greater use of technology caught my "Eagle-Eyes" because it implied that in our rush to complete more tasks, we do not take sufficient time to "think" things through any more.
