About a month ago, I posted my last "Our Cyberplace" blog and asked readers if they thought, (1) Is citizen media a fad or the future of news? (2) Will this innovation result in a major transformation of our local newspapers? and (3) What do you think?

If the recent newspaper reports about cleaning up our railroad "dumping ground" by the Visitors' Center is any indication, it would appear that "complaining" to the right officials can produced results.

Remembering Vi

Last Saturday was both a sad day and a happy one. "Sad," because I attended the memorial service for a former colleague, that I knew from my 32 years at San Francisco State University. A "happy" day because of the memories that were presented by the various speakers, including the President of SFSU, the Dean of the College of Education, colleagues from the Department of Elementary Education, former students, family, and friends.

Useful acronyms

Over the past 24-48 hours, these three acronyms (you know how I love to use them), were flashing across my radar screen in living color. On Saturday, eight NERT "spark plugs" (Neighborhood Emergency Response Team), from Petaluma participated in a six hour, "CERT Challenge" with over 50 other CERT course graduates from throughout Sonoma County. There were six, hands-on/feet-on-the-ground scenarios to test the emergency preparedness knowledge of these community volunteers that were found in the textbooks
