"I" am retiring from being "retired!"

Me and Myself are not sure this is a good idea for I, at this time; therefore, The Trio have a slight problem on their hands. Eagle-Eyes wonders, "What kind of headline will that be for your readers to see? Hammerhead's only comment is, "That statement will not hit the nail on the head, you better rethink what you just said."

"Hear me out," I says.. It's been 16 years - to the day - since we moved from the "Big City" to Petaluma (our favorite river town.) Ever since the day we moved here, it's been go-go-go. We certainly represent what everyone told us about being retired - you'll be busier than ever. You'll have to work at being retired seven days a week. There are no days off.

I'm not saying that it hasn't been fun, rewarding and productive; but, hey - wait a minute - my 81st birthday is coming up soon. Even my historic persona, William Howard Pepper, only lived until he was 82 years old. Isn't it time to pause - slow down and smell the roses?

Myself thought that he would be lost if he just took care of the roses, drank fine Sonoma County wines, and looked out at the beautiful Sonoma Mountain ridgeline. Me was so upset with the reality of becoming an octogenarian with aches and pains, plus periods of forgetfulness (i.e., faulty memory chip), that he couldn't utter a coherent sentence.

Eagle-Eyes said, "O.K., go ahead with your announcement and see what your readers think. Hammerhead really doesn't know if anyone is reading these blogs anymore. After all; you know who has posted over 340 blogs on Petaluma360 since March 2006.

So, where are we? I will go on a sabbatical (and hopefully, finish cleaning out the garage.) Me will be standing by to keep readers updated on being ready and better prepared for disasters. Myself is sitting on the fence, but will swing into action if he thinks the headline will hit the nail on the head and attract the attention of Eagle-Eyes.

Please stay tuned; we'll just have to wait and see what happens next.

Comment: Mr. Hammerman is a hero. He would be an even bigger force if he would buy a Mac and let me teach him how to make videos to promote all the good things he does. Call me Bill. I'll make the time, Honest. - See Bill get his just deserts by clicking Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8Z462wQSXU

Comment: What you and Bill Paxton did to establish CERT and NERT (along with Tiffany Renee and Jaimey Walking Bear) - that alone - has been a great contribution to the Petaluma community. And that is just one of many of your giving-from-your-heart for the good of others' activities. I enjoyed sitting with you on the subcommittee for suggestions on how to get the River Heritage Center project started, as well. I honor and support your sabbatical - if citizens were able to give just 1/8th of what you have given to the historic, emergency response and other areas of our community, we would not all be looking for volunteers to help begin and sustain things, would we?! Thanks for being a great example of living beyond professions. Set an example for us in sabbatical, please! Thanks!
